Flyman's tip: Tie herls in by their tips, so the flue is stood up as it passes through your finger tips. For durability, use two, or three herls, gently twisted together. Some tyers like to wind the herls over a bed of varnish. A rib of clear mono is also an option to give this herl some protection from sharp trout teeth
